The Principal has been a practicing solicitor in Queensland since January 2005 having worked in various private practice roles, Legal Aid Queensland, and most recently as the Head of Compliance, Risk & Legal within a large private School on the Gold Coast. This included 2 years within the specialist domestic violence team at Legal Aid Queensland, and 10 years as an Independent Children's Lawyer. Following leaving her role as Special Counsel at Corney & Lind Lawyers, she took the role of Head of Compliance, Risk & Legal within a large faith-based school. She has also previously been a board member of several other not for profit entities including the Australian Belted Galloway Association, Mackay Regional Community Legal Centre, Mackay Children’s Contact Service, and New Hope Community Church Ltd and thus understands the “not-fot-profit” and charitable space first hand.
During her career, our Principal has demonstrated competence across a range of legal areas including WHS, employment law, privacy law, discrimination law, complaints and investigations, policy development and review, family law and domestic violence, general goods and services contracts, and implementation of compliance and risk structures. She is well known in faith based schools across Australia as a trusted adviser. With both a Masters of Law, and Bachelor of International Business, Fiona has the legal knowledge and experience, and the business acumen to help you.
During the past 10 years, the Principal has undertaken many investigations within external client organisations (primarily schools) and internally as Head of Compliance, Risk & Legal. The investigations undertaken have included reportable WHS matters, bullying complaints between staff, sexual harassment between staff, sexual harassment between children, child safeguarding matters, and code of conduct matters including fraud and other integrity investigations. She has also provided training and mentored staff learning to undertake investigations.
A Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner since approximately 2007, and now AMDRAS accredited mediator, the Principal has undertaken many mediations, including family dispute resolution processes within Legal Aid Queensland involving family violence. She has completed all of the publicly available Peacewise training and loves to help people work to cool the fire of conflict and reach peaceful solutions.
A regular presenter at conferences for The Education Network and Lawsense, Fiona loves to help others learn and improve. The first step to ensuring staff have the opportunity to meet expectations is ensuring they understand what is expected - and Fiona is skilled at presenting training to ensure staff understand the expectations upon them.
